Statement below from the Foss Evening League confirming the cancellation of the 2020 season:
As you will all be very much aware great uncertainties still surround the 2020 cricket season due to the Coronavirus pandemic - especially now that the Chief Medical Officer, Prof Chris Witty has stated that social distancing could remain in place until the end of the year.
The ECB and Government guidelines are stating that there is to be no cricket played in any form until at least the middle of July and that decision could well be extended until further into the year. This effectively wipes out 80% of the usual Foss season.
In view of this it is with regret that the Foss Management Committee have had to take the decision to cancel the Foss Evening Cricket League fixtures for the whole of 2020. It has been a hard decision to make and not one that we have taken lightly but everyones safety is paramount. Hopefully as clubs and individuals we can all ride out the storm and return stronger in 2021.
Should the ECB lift restrictions late July/early August there may be the opportunity for clubs to play a few friendly games however it will be up to clubs to organise this between themselves.
Wishing everyone all the very best as we ride out this horrible time and hopefully we can all meet up and participate in the wonderful game of cricket in 2021.
