The 1sts sponsored by A&M Removals of Pocklington hosted North Cave in our only match on Saturday this weekend and were asked to bat first after losing the toss.
Pock openers Richard Readman (19) and Joss Room (16) got off to a steady start but played the opening role to perfection when seeing off the new ball before Readman was bowled and Room was given out LBW. From here though there were several good parternships which helped Pock post a challenging first innings total as they set a score of 258-8. Dan Littlewood (42) and Nathan Saltmer (41) added useful runs whilst Cameron Mitchell (90) was the mainstay of the innings with an impressive half century.
North Cave in reply always were in the game with their opener Barker (88) at the crease who played a destructive innings before Will Atkinson (5-52) returned in his second spell to take the vital wicket with a superb caught and bowled effort. Atkinson followed this up with more wickets to claim an honours board entry with a five wicket haul and bowled superbly in tandem with Alex Downey (4-46). With only one other player reaching double figures Cave were eventually bowled out for 174 to give Pock an 84 run with and another 10 points to the league tally as the maintain second place in Division 1 East.
It was another special day for another of our junior players George Moorehouse who made his first team debut keeping wicket with real class, taking a catch and hitting 6 runs, hopefully the first of many more outings. Well done also to Josh Tanikal making another appearance in the 1sts who bowled well in his five over spell.
Next week the 1sts are in action again at Burnby Lane and host Hull Zingari 2nds.
