Pock 2nds sponsored by A&M Removals of Pocklington hosted Hensall 1sts this week at Burnby Lane and skipper John Chaplin invited the visitors to bat first after winning the toss.
Hensall got off to a quick start before Ryan Lockwood (2-51) took a couple wickets, the score now 70-2. Hensall then put on a 107 run third wicket partnership before Fin Waldron (1-26) claimed the only other wicket in the innings with an impressive caught and bowled. Pocks young bowling attack did well to keep the scoring down though as Hensall finished their innings on 232-3, Chris Thornton (107*) carrying his bat for the visitors with an impressive unbeaten century.
After an always delicious tea provided by Laveracks at Pocklington John Chaplin (27) and Joss Room (31) got the reply off to a quick start before both fell, Lockwood (8) came and went after a couple of boundaries and was quickly followed back by Will Atkinson (0) who was run out. Fin Waldron (7) also added a few before being bowled.
Dan Croft (40) and Tom Binns (38) provided a fight back with some useful middle over runs, Croft was bowled late on though and followed back by Binns who was unfortunate to be run out by a straight drive deflected onto the stumps by the bowler when backing up. The score at this stage 183-8.
Freddie Hara (13) had added more runs before Freddie Nightingale (30) and Lewis Chaplin (9) took the game close before both being bowled in the 44th over as Hensall ran out winners by 14 runs in a closely contested game. A defeat for the 2s but yet again several positive performances including great batting and bowling efforts from the clubs junior contingent in the side.
Next week the 2nds are back on the road and face Burn 1sts.
